American design duo whose moulded‑plywood and plastic seating and furniture helped define mid‑century modern globally. Charles (1907‑1978) and Ray (1912‑1988) Eames worked together in the United States to produce furniture, architecture, exhibitions and films. Their famous pieces include the LCW chair (1940s) and the Lounge Chair and Ottoman (1956) made of molded plywood and leather. They pioneered mass‑production methods and introduced forms that remain production classics today. Their work bridged craft, technology and everyday use. They showed how furniture could be elegant, affordable and widely distributed — shaping how product design evolved in the post‑war era.
